Somewhere, in trenches mostly forgotten about after the Great War, ghouls set up a colony. No one realized what was happening until corpses from battlefields began disappearing decades later. Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20’s release Priority Mission 1: Resurrection Men from Modiphius is a short module for gamers with little time. Players will help Section M resolve the situation, or at least keep it from deteriorating.
It is no exaggeration to say this mission is quick and affordable. There are only a few pages to read, which makes prep almost non-existent, and that is perfect for just about any adult. The older I become, the more I have a fondness for supplements such as this one. A person can play anytime, anywhere without worrying if everyone will make it to next week’s game. Someone can’t make it, but the other players want to throw some dice? Boom! Resurrection Men can save the night.
At first glance, this mission looks like a dungeon crawl, but the plot is much different. The map included is fairly straightforward and it would be easy to re-use it for almost any other game. Best of all, it’s not a sprawling environment. Everything is well-constrained.
What’s a bit odd is that the mission isn’t particularly specific for the location. The setting is a tunnel network leftover from World War One and that narrows down this particular venue. A significant proportion of WWI was fought in France. Not naming a place is a strange detail to omit. Offering an actual site would be a good way of letting players engage more deeply with this succinct module.
Ultimately, Resurrection Men is as advertised. It is concisely designed and is useful to have on hand when a game night goes sideways. The whole product from cover to cover is less than ten pages, requiring almost zero preparation. It is oddly vague with the location, but this can be dealt with very easily. Modiphius has published a great plan B to have ready for any group.
