BFS Writing Retreat 2026

We are now ready to open expressions of interest for the 2026 BFS Writing Retreat! This year we’re holding it from February 27th – March 2nd at The Queen at Chester hotel in Chester, which many of you will remember as the venue for Fantasycon 2024. As a result, we’re able to expand the number of attendees!

This year, we’ll be able to offer 20 places, one of which will be sponsored by the BFS. Priority will be given to first time attendees, but because of the larger number of places, four places will be given to return attendees.

The retreat will cost £350 per person and includes bed and breakfast. Other meals can be purchased at the hotel, or there are a variety of other places to eat within walking distance.

Each bedroom is equipped with a desk for those who prefer to write in solitude, and we will have use of a conference room for anyone who would like to work in there. We can use this space to run sprint sessions, if there’s an interest in doing so. There’s plenty of seating in the bar area, for those who like the ‘coffee shop buzz’ in the background when working, and there’s a pleasant courtyard where you can work, weather permitting.

If you would like to attend, please complete the form here to express your interest. In the event that there are more applications than places, names will be drawn from a hat.

If you would like to apply for the sponsored place, please fill out this form. In the event that there are more applications than places, names will be drawn from a hat.
