BFS Online is excited to announce our next event, Faith, Science & Folklore taking place Wednesday 28th January 2026 at 7pm (GMT).

Knowledge and experience are frameworks for the stories we tell. But imagination and creativity make those stories something new, something else. But how does the writer’s lens influence the tale, the journey? Join moderator David Green and panellists MK Hardy, Sam K Horton, and Lorraine Wilson as they discuss the intersectionality of faith, science and folklore.

MK Hardy (she/her): Morag Hannah, together with wife Erin Hardee, writes under the penname MK Hardy. With backgrounds ranging from museum interpretation to web design, and from science communication to ghost tours, they are devoted to storytelling in almost every aspect of their lives and work. When they are not telling stories they can be found singing in choirs, foraging for fungi, and working on their 1880s fixer-upper. Their debut sapphic gothic horror The Needfire released from Solaris in the UK in July 2025. Buy The Needfire and find out more about MK Hardy on their website. Or follow them on Bluesky, Twitter or Instagram.

Lorraine Wilson (she/her): A conservation scientist and third-culture Scot, Lorraine lives by the sea writing speculative fiction influenced by folklore and the wilderness. She is the multi-award winning author of several books, most recently the science fantasy, We Are All Ghosts In The Forest, and the upcoming The Salt Oracle. Find out more on Lorraine’s website. Or connect with her on Bluesky and Instagram. You can also read her blog on Substack. Grab her books here.

Sam K Horton (he/him): Sam K Horton is a Cornwall-based author. Trained as a costume designer working in film, theatre and opera, he moved into visual art, always working with narratives, texts and stories. He began writing short stories as part of a creative project to create a fictional island called Eythin in 2019 and became a novelist by mistake. His first book, Gorse, is a story of magic and murder in an imagined 18th Century Cornwall where folklore is real—and deadly. Its sequel, Ragwort, was published October 2025. Find out about Sam on his website. Or follow on Instagram and Bluesky. Sam’s books are available here.

David Green (he/him): David Green is a neurodivergent writer of the epic and the urban, the fantastical, the cosy, and the mysterious. With his character-driven dark fantasy series Empire Of Ruin, or urban fantasy noir Hell In Haven, David takes readers on emotional, action-packed thrill rides. Hailing from the north-west of England, David now lives in County Galway on the west coast of Ireland with his wife and Godzilla-obsessed son. When not writing, David can be found wondering why he chooses to live in places where it constantly rains. David’s Path Of War was nominated for Best Novel at the 2023 BFS Awards, and he is repped by Laura Bennett of Liverpool Literacy Agency. David is the Secretary of the British Fantasy Society. Learn more about David on his website or follow him on Twitter or Bluesky.
