Ramsey Campbell

This is an invitation to you to join the community of the fantastic. Many years ago, when I was a struggling writer and a vociferous fan, I tried to convince people that we admirers of fantasy needed a society to bring us together for fun and for sharing our ideas, and I don't know of a better such organisation than the British Fantasy Society.

Some of us are for the dark and macabre, some for the heroic and the mythic, but we all agree that the imagination is one of the most precious of the elements that make us human.

Our society includes writers and artists and musicians and folk involved in film, but nobody is more important than the audience.

I hope you will derive as much pleasure and inspiration from contact with our members as I do, and I hope to meet you personally at one of our conventions soon.

Ramsey Campbell, President

"Whenever a fledgling horror or fantasy writer comes up to me, at a convention or somewhere else, and asks me how they can get their work published, I invariably advise them that their first step should be to join the British Fantasy Society." – Stephen Jones, editor of Best New Horror

Every year, members receive:
Publications:
Four issues of Prism, the society’s news magazine.  A combination of news, reviews and articles, every issue also features columns from Ramsey Campbell, Mark Morris, James Barclay and Eric Brown.
Two issues of Dark Horizons, the critically acclaimed journal of the society. A thick magazine publishing fiction, poetry, articles and interviews.
Two issues of New Horizons, the sister magazine to the above dedicated to promoting and showcasing the newer names in fantasy, horror and sci-fi.
The British Fantasy Society also has a publishing arm which produces special publications for members, which in the past have included The BFS – a Celebration, Houses on the Borderland, H.P. Lovecraft in Britain, and many more. (See the publications section of the website for more information on our previous special publications.)
